Lost in a Moment - The Story Telling Art of Country Music

To Start I present a song, to play in the background as you begin reading this email Blog Post.
There are a bunch of song links below, but figured this could help get things started!

So I regret to inform you that this response was supposed to be much longer and more accurate (in regards to Country music - the true music still played on the radio), but I guess Gmail decided not to save my draft I had typed out after a long drive home listening to some of the latest and greatest country music. What I have written below is an attempt to reproduce that explanation of country music. However nothing I write will be as good as that original write up/outline. This is simply a tribute to that original lost email.

So let's start off by saying that Country music is different. It's not like everyone likes it, and because it has such a strong connotation with hillbillys and cowboys, most people shy away from such music. While it's clear that the so called "Twang" in the singers voice gives away the musics' style and purpose, it's really about the lyrics in country music (kinda like how rap music is about the bass!). The song's mentioned in this email mean nothing unless the time is taken to hear the lyrics out to their entirety. The lyrics tell the story, not the guitar strings, or the drums!

So some may find the twang annoying at first, but that's really what can help define the country song. It's apart of the song, much like how fireworks are apart of America's fourth of July Celebration, and the jack of spades is a part of a deck of cards. The twang may be a hurdle to over come to really enjoy the country music, but it's one hurdle that is worth jumping over in life. There is an endless possibility of country music after that Twang is enjoyed rather than annoyed.

I propose that there are three types of country songs can be grouped into a couple different categories. Some fun, and free, others more serious, and some with a message learned from life experiences.

Another aspect of Country music, which some prefers to ignore, is the girls singing country music. Song's like Carrie underwood - Last Name, or Miranda Lamberts - Me and Charlie Talking are nice to mix things up a bit from the usual guy dominated country music scene.

If your still having trouble figuring out what country music is all about, you may try a couple song's by Brad Paisley. He is an amazing song writer with top charting hits every few months. He continually writes song's that hit the heart! Try a few of these on your local stereo to see what I'm referring to:

Unfortunately Country music is not all fun and games. Country music is one of the few types of music that brings the real aspects of life into it's music. It lets you live through their experiences when they sing about stuff like breakups and leaving a lost love. A few songs present this here:
To end things off, I have one last song that me and my sister have a particular liking to:

Best of luck to enjoying one of the greatest American traditions that is still very much alive!! If you STILL have a problem with the Twang, give it a week or two!

-Matt

p.p.s This wouldn't be a country music introduction without some Allan Jackson!!
